About Tom G.
Founder and President THOMAS GILSENAN (“Tom G.”) grew up in Palo Alto, California, surrounded by the influences of the Silicon Valley. Unlike most third-grade classrooms, his was a testing ground for the new, growing personal computer market, and Tom G. was given the opportunity to work on both Apple and IBM computers at a young age.
After moving to Los Angeles in 2000, Tom G. worked in television production for infomercials and the reality show Fear Factor. Later he worked as a systems administrator for the prominent design firm Imaginary Forces and as an IT manager for Titmouse Inc., a full-service animation studio, during the first season’s production of Metalocalypse: The Curse of Dethklok, an Adult Swim show for Cartoon Network. Both Titmouse and Imaginary Forces are now clients of DZ Solutions.
Tom G. struck out on his own to found DZ Solutions after noticing a deficit of companies providing full-service technology solutions to entertainment companies, including designing workflows and moving and storing data. “There weren’t a lot of people out there focused on making systems more efficient and optimizing for minimal management,” recalls Tom. “The thought was—how do we streamline and use technology to improve efficiency and end-user experience without breaking the bank or adding unnecessary levels of complexity?”
Since then, Tom G. has expanded his philosophy to include tackling complex problems in large organizations as well as simplifying product integration for companies with limited resources. He’s also increased his client base beyond the entertainment industry.
One thing that has not changed is Tom G.’s uncompromising commitment to customer service. This is probably best evidenced in his insistence on always employing twice as many technical professionals as sales staff. “We’re a value-added reseller,” says Tom. “Our value lies in our technical expertise; we do our own installations and repairs. If you have a technical problem it will be solved by a technical professional, not a sales office.”
Tom G.’s proudest achievements since starting DZ Solutions are:
- Increasing revenue by almost double, year over year
- Consistently choosing technology winners for all DZ Solutions clients
- Keeping his original commitment of maintaining the right balance of tech support to customers
